Photo Exhibition at the National Environmental Research Institute

Friday 4. Februar I opened my photo exhibition “Northeast Greenland seen from Dogsledge”

My exhibition can be seen until the beginning of april at the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Biodiversity at the National Environmental Research Institute located at Kalø in Denmark. The photos are from my two years in the Sirius Sledge Patrol and they show the wonderful and unique nature and the life in the patrol.

First photos of the jay

One of my friends has a piece of land with forest in the north of Jutland, and he was so kind to let me set up my photo hide in the late autumn. When the winter came to Denmark I started to scatter seeds and nuts for the birds a few times every week. The hide has been there for several months now an I have spent many days sitting in it mornings and evenings without any luck at all and I was actually starting to become a little disappointed. Anyway the last 3 times I have been lucky to get some very nice

experienced and forIt was exciting to se how they collect nuts and when the bill is filled up they fly away for a few minutes before they return.I have been reading a lot about these birds now and obviously they make several depots around the forest and the amazing thing is the fact that they manage to find them again. I think this is very interesting and I hope I will get the opportunity to get a photo of this behaviour. For now I am very happy to get a collection of the jays in the snow.

A few winter shots from Denmark in December

Normally the winter in Denmark is pretty warm an a snow covered landscape is rare. Last year we had a real cold winter and this winter seems to be even more cold. A few weeks before christmas I spent some days working with the swanes and the landscapes and got a few nice shots. These days I am working in the forest in the north of Denmark and I hope to get something useful of the buzzard and the jay.

On assignment in Lofoten

In July I spent a week in Lofoten in Norway working on an Hilmer & Koch article for a Scandinavian Photo Magazine. Indeed this is definitely a beautiful place on earth. Six days was really not enough on these islands. It takes a lot of time to get around on the narrow roads and the light changes so fast. This may be paradise for a landscape photographer. Because I was so busy in the time before this trip, I was not prepared a all, and this was really the wrong place to be unprepared because everything was just so expensive.
After the first evening on a very expensive and very bad Best Western hotel I went to the sports shop where I bought a cheap View full post »

Bear Photography in Finland – 4

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to the wilderness of Finland and I have got some nice shots and more important – some incredible experiences.
I have now been through all the photos and I am now working on finding the best shots, but that will take some time. These will be presented in the gallery.

Bear Photography in Finland – 3

This is just amazing. I have now spent five nights in the blind, and it has been a wonderful experience. Nature photography is my job and the best hobby I have ever had. It really gives me something unique to spend my time in the nature. Mammals are my greatest passion and one mammal has always been my favorite – the wolf. One of my dreams has always been to see a wolf in real life and a few days ago this dream came truth. Even got pictures of the wolves and even though it only takes 1/125 of a second, this was one of the most exciting and amazing things I have tried for a long time. Thank you Mother Nature. Bear Photography in Finland – 2

The time is now 02.28 and even though it is in the middle of the night it is pretty light outside the little photo hide which is placed in the middle of the wild nature of Finland – only a few hundred meters from the border to Russia. The landscape is dominated by forest and small lakes and this is absolutely wonderful to be at a place with so much nature and so few people. This is what I am doing right now. Sitting in the little blind with my laptop and writing to you guys while I am waiting for the bears and enjoying the beautiful nature around me. View full post »

Bear Photography in Finland – 1

Just a few thoughts from Helsinki Airport in Finland. So now I sit here in Helsinki, waiting for the flight to Kajaani. From there I’ll have to drive a couple of hours to get to our base camp. I just got a call from my good buddy Nature Photographer Magnus Elander, who has arranged this trip. He had a good message for me – He had arranged that I could go to the hide already tonight. Surely it is almost unnecessary to write, that I am like a little child at Christmas when I think about being alone in the small hide in the middle of the Finnish wilderness. It is the first time in my life that I will experience the wild bears, and I have a good feeling that it will be a fantastic experience. I must arm myself with a little patience, because I still have about 9 hours travelling before I get to our base camp. I really hope there is a working Internet connection so I can write home to you guys. Now I want to use the waiting time to tell you about my equipment that I have brought on this tour.
