From 2005 – 2007 I was a member of the Sledge Patrol Sirius which is a special unit in the Royal Danish Navy. Our job was to patrol the coast line in the national park located in Northeast Greenland.
The life in the patrol is very primitive and in many ways it is very different compared to our everyday civilized life. On the long travels which last for more than four months we are sleeping in tents and small huts and we depend on our own skills and our dogs. I have learned a lot from my two years up there and it has been an amazing and completely unique experiences to spend two years in this wonderful country.
During the two years I drove almost 10.000 kilometres with my colleague and our 14 dogs and on these trips I developed a deep fascination of the arctic animals who manage to survive in extreme weather conditions with temperatures as low as -50 degrees Celsius.
From the very beginning I always kept my camera close to me during my time in Sirius and today I am so grateful because these two years gave me a unique opportunity to build a collection of very special and storytelling photos.
