Swirling Snow

It is getting dark very fast, and it is already too dark to find my way back to the tent without help. I take up my compass, point it in the right direction and set the course. I use the last light to pack my camera equipment and then I start the walk.
It is only 4.30 pm but at this time of the year daylight is sparse in the Norwegian mountains.
I set a higher pace because I would like to get back before it is pitch black.

It is New Year’s Eve and I have brought some nice food for this evening. What a great experience it is to sit here in the snow outside the tent with some nice food just looking at the fireworks far, far away. It would be nice to be with my family though, but I only had this one opportunity this year to visit the muskoxen.

The next morning it is a bit windy, but it is still sky clear. The light is phenomenal and after just a few kilometres of skiing nature has a little surprise for me. Two muskoxen in swirling snow with the most stunning backlight.
